Johannesburg-based painter Melissa Haiden has spent more than fifteen years exploring the lushness and wonder of the world through paint.

Working six to seven hours a day in her studio, she describes painting as an immersive experience — one where each canvas becomes a living story, curling, dripping, and glowing into form.

 After moving from Cape Town, Haiden joined August House Studio, where she found both inspiration and community among fellow artists. Living and working in Johannesburg inner city has sharpened her understanding of nature’s urgency. Against the city’s dust and density, she feels a deep craving for green, for growth, and for the replenishing power of colour.

Beyond her studio practice, Haiden finds joy in Johannesburg’s untamed parks, in music, and in cooking abundant meals to share
with friends.

Her work rarely dictates meaning; instead, it offers viewers a
space of universal connection. At its heart, her art is about wonder — and about falling in love with the world, again and again.
